Mokopane Diesel Depot: Empowering Communities, Fueling Growth
Velar Petroleum is proud to be part of a landmark initiative in Mokopane that represents the true spirit of community empowerment and inclusive economic development. In partnership with local stakeholders and the mining industry, Velar co-launched the Mokopane Diesel Depot, a fully black-owned project where 51% of the ownership lies with the communities of Tshamahansi and Ga-Kgubudi, and 49% with Velar Petroleum.

This groundbreaking venture, which began in October 2023, which is not just a fuel supply operation, it’s a catalyst for job creation, skills development, and sustainable local investment. Led by dynamic entrepreneurs Lee Dlamini, Thabo Kekana, and Tshepo Mahlaola, the depot supplies diesel to local mining operations while prioritizing local employment and transformation.

Supported by IvanPlats and endorsed by the Mokopane Traditional Councils, the project has been widely recognized for its collaborative model and potential to uplift youth and drive regional growth. The Mokopane Diesel Depot is a shining example of what’s possible when businesses, communities, and industries work together for a shared future.
